Please join us in welcoming Dr. Meghan Jessee to the Care First Animal Hospital team. Dr. Jessee brings a wealth of experience in veterinary medicine, public health, and animal welfare to help ensure your pets receive the best care possible.
Career Journey
Dr. Jessee graduated from the University of Florida in 2022 with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine, specializing in a mixed animal track. During veterinary school, she was awarded the prestigious USDA Adel A Malak Scholarship, a program that provided both a scholarship and an internship with the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). After graduation, Dr. Jessee began her career with the USDA as a Supervisory Public Health Veterinarian at the world’s largest hog processing facility in Tar Heel, North Carolina.
Throughout her time with the USDA, Dr. Jessee worked as a small animal relief veterinarian during her days off, which ultimately inspired her to transition to full-time small animal practice. She joined Care First Animal Hospital in January 2025 and is thrilled to continue her journey in veterinary care.
Why She Chose Veterinary Medicine
Growing up surrounded by small animal veterinarians, including her grandparents and aunt, Dr. Jessee always had a strong connection to the field. However, it was her experience raising and showing market hogs for the 4-H club that truly sparked her passion for veterinary medicine. This hands-on experience, along with shadowing her large animal veterinarian, deepened her love for animals and solidified her decision to pursue a veterinary career. Dr. Jessee is especially excited about the versatility of the profession and is eager to apply her public health knowledge to preventative care in small animal medicine.
Favorite Part of Her Job
Dr. Jessee finds the most fulfillment in helping pet owners improve the lives of their pets, particularly when they feel helpless and don't know where to turn. She believes pets are family, and it’s a privilege to be the one who helps them get better and thrive in their home environment.
Personal Hobbies and Interests
Outside of veterinary care, Dr. Jessee enjoys staying active by attending Orange Theory classes, which help her relieve stress. She also loves exploring new restaurants, breweries, and shops around the Triangle area. When she’s relaxing, you can find her enjoying reality TV, a guilty pleasure she embraces wholeheartedly.
Dr. Jessee is thrilled to be a part of the Care First Animal Hospital team and looks forward to building long-lasting relationships with clients and their pets. She is excited to continue helping pets lead happy, healthy lives.
