Through preventive health programs and general pet health services, the team at Care First Animal Hospital does whatever we can to help your pet live a long, healthy life. That said, there comes a time when medical treatments may not always be the best option, and our end of life care is in the best interest of your pet.
We Are Here For You
At Care First, we understand that this may be one of the most difficult decisions that you have had to make, and we are here to help you. Oftentimes, it can be hard to tell if your pet is ready to say goodbye. Our experienced vets will examine and spend ample time with your pet to help you make the right call. We care deeply for our pet patients, but we also care about you as pet parents, and we understand the toll this experience can take. We will provide you with the care and reassurance that you need during this sensitive time – you are not alone in this.
Pet Euthanasia
In many cases, euthanasia is the most unselfish gift an owner can give their pet after a life filled with love and happiness. We want them to be around forever, but if quality of life is not there, euthanasia eliminates suffering and gives pets a peaceful sleep.
The Euthanasia Process
Pet euthanasia is a humane and painless procedure that may be the best answer to your pet’s needs. We encourage you to discuss our end of life care with our veterinarians — we will gladly answer all of your questions and go over the options with you.
While there are slight variations in the specific procedure and drugs utilized, anesthetic agents will always be given to ensure the animal is completely unconscious and does not experience any unnecessary pain or discomfort. The intravenous drug used after the anesthetic is very quick and painless.
We allow families to choose whether they would like to be with their pet for comfort and closure as they go to sleep, or have our doctors take care of the procedure privately. Either way, know that your pet will pass in loving arms.
Cremation Services
In order to accommodate our client’s wishes, we also offer pet cremation in Cary and Raleigh as a way to say goodbye to your beloved pet. You may choose:
-
Cremation with return of ashes/cremains – Ashes can be returned to pet parents. They may be placed in an urn and keep close to them throughout their lives.
-
Cremation without return of ashes– Several pets’ ashes are combined and peacefully scattered across 16 acres of beautiful countryside.
